We tried Google’s free online marketing course (to see if you should too)
Google has released a new course “Learn Online Marketing”, which is free and has the potential to be really beneficial for small business owners who are struggling to get the exposure needed to grow their business.
We know that running your own business can be time-consuming and leave you without time to do much else. So, we’re reviewing each topic so you can tell if they are going to be useful for you.
Before we start it’s important to note that you don’t have to complete the learning in every section. If you already know enough about a certain topic you can skip the learning videos and go straight to the quiz, or if you already know enough about ‘Online Marketing’ you can skip to the final test to get the course completed
To get started you are required to answer a few generic questions to determine why you have chosen to the course and what you want to get out of it. This is so you can be provided with a ‘tailored plan’ that meets your specific needs. The range of options are large so you shouldn’t have any difficulty finding one that explains why you’re doing the course.
Topic 1: The Online Opportunity
Topic 1 has two lessons within it that focus on digitization and being online. Lesson 1 is very basic, it gives a brief overview and explanation of the digital industry over the last few years. It then continues on to explain why the digital industry is important for businesses and why they have to be online. Lesson 2 is on actually ‘getting online’ so it’s for those who have no online presence. If you have no social media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram), no website or any reviews for your business this section will be really good for you! The lesson then explains ways to improve your online presence.
The tests were both very generic with a couple of questions on topics included in the video learning component of the lesson. They both took less than 5 minutes and were easy to complete. The end of topic assessment was slightly longer but still simple and quick to complete.
There is an extensive glossary of key terms called a ‘Jargon Buster’ that is included. The ‘Jargon Buster’ had clear explanations of the terms used and was a great resource.
Overall, including setup and all the different components, this task took around 30 minutes to complete.
So far so good! This course has the potential to be really beneficial. We’ll keep you updated and now onto Topic 2.
