So, you wanna be successful?
I’m guessing right now I’m (hopefully) speaking to a small business owner who wishes with all of their heart to learn the fundamental steps (wow that’s a big word for a Thursday) of becoming even more successful (come on, give yourself credit for what you have achieved so far please). So without further ado, lets jump right in.
Balance the growth of your Business tree by watering the roots.
You may find yourself working hard on your business’s growth (customers and profit), but not spending enough time on watering the roots of your business – i.e. all of the paperwork and admin work that you push aside because lets face it, they aren’t really that fun to do. Well, duh duh duh duhhhhh, getting a booking system can save half of that stress by doing the majority of the admin work for you (I’m talking reports, CRMS and more) or you can just delegate more time to doing the papers, but honestly, I would so much rather go for an inexpensive software that does it for me.
Get your staff to do things your way.
How does a visual aspect of my business coincide with success you ask? Well my friend, your customers are secretly judging your business (harsh I know) via the way it looks. If there is the odd cobweb in the corner or dust on the computer, people will notice. Best to have your staff clean the way you want them to clean, and stack stock the way you want it to be stocked, than to let them do it wrong. Also, make sure they themselves are presented the way you want them to be, as your customers automatically assume that if someone can’t take of themselves first, well, what hope do they having helping the customer?
Sleep like Beauty, train like the beast and ‘eat (real) food, just enough and mainly plants’ and BOOM, your staff will be as gorgeous on the outside as they are on the inside.
Use technology to organise and prioritise.
A business won’t get far if it isn’t properly organised. Period. You have got to be on your toes constantly during the day checking everyone is where they should be etc, so why not just automate it? Technology these days (*cough* booking systems) are FANTASTIC, are ten times smarter than a human (no offence) and literally work exactly how you ask them to. Setting one up is a true investment to your business; be it for reminders, bookings, diary functions, or literally (almost) everything your heart desires it to be.
Finally, just do what you love man.
You only get one life, so make the most of it. You want to be a camel farmer? Do it. You want to open your own retreat in the middle of the bush? You go Glenn Coco. You want to change something about your business? Well then, as Nike so wisely said, just do it. Want help getting there? Don’t be proud and outsource. And always, always, always remember the fabulous saying:
‘Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life’ – Shakespeare I think?
